Is December a good time to visit Madagascar?
If you’re thinking about visiting Madagascar in December, keep in mind that it may not be ideal if you're primarily looking for a beach getaway or extensive hiking.
December is right in the middle of the rainy season, so expect high humidity and frequent downpours. The rain can limit some outdoor activities, but it also brings the forests to life, making it a great time for wildlife enthusiasts. You’ll have the chance to see many unique species, especially in places like Andasibe-Mantadia National Park, where the eerie calls of the Indri lemurs echo through the misty trees.
Northern beaches such as Nosy Be are an option, but the weather can be unpredictable. Traveling can get tricky, especially in more remote areas where roads might become impassable and certain national park trails could be closed. Flexibility is definitely important during this time. Don't forget to pack quality rain gear, use robust insect repellent, and consider antimalarial precautions.
