Is October a good time to visit Rome?

October is generally a good time to visit Rome. During this month, the weather in Rome tends to be pleasant and cooler than in the summer months.

In addition to the pleasant weather, October also marks the beginning of the off-peak tourist season. Although there are still plenty of tourists at this time, they are not as crowded as during the peak summer months, allowing you to visit popular attractions with fewer crowds and smaller queues.

Another advantage of visiting Rome in October is the beautiful autumn foliage that adorns the city's parks and gardens, such as Villa Borghese and Villa Doria Pamphili, creating picturesque scenery for visitors.

Air & sea temperatures in Rome in October

October is a great time to visit Rome, as the weather is mild and pleasant during this month. The average high temperature in October is around 20°C (68°F) during the day and the average low temperature is around 15°C (59°F) at night.

This means that you can expect comfortable temperatures during the day, which is ideal for outdoor activities and sightseeing. However, evenings and early mornings can be chilly, so we recommend bringing outerwear to stay comfortable.

For sea enthusiasts, water temperatures still remain relatively warm in October, averaging 21°C (70°F). This allows for swimming and water sports, but if you are pursuing a beach holiday in Italy in October, it is better to look towards the Southern Italian region such as Sicily or Naples.

It should also be noted that Rome is not directly on the coast, so in order to enjoy the sea you will have to go to nearby coastal areas such as Ostia or other beaches on the Tyrrhenian Sea.

Rough Guides Tip: If you love the lively atmosphere of the summer holidays and can tolerate the heat well, August could be the perfect time for your Rome adventure.
