Is January a good time to visit Jordan?
If you travel to Jordan in January, don’t expect blue skies and dry, warm days. However, the cooler weather in Jordan in January does bring a seasonal charm, plus accommodation costs and tour prices are generally lower throughout the winter months. This is also an exciting time to visit because of the many seasonal cultural events that take place.
As a low-season month, January provides a more serene travel experience and the opportunity to explore Jordan’s cultural and iconic sites, including Jerash, Petra, and Amman’s Citadel, without the crowds and intense summer heat. Snow is possible in higher altitudes, creating stunning landscapes, especially in Petra. Meanwhile, the Dead Sea and Aqaba offer milder temperatures (highs around 68°F/20°C), making them ideal for a more relaxing vacation.
Whether you’re trekking through Petra’s trails or soaking in the Dead Sea, as long as you bring a lightweight rain jacket and warm clothing for layering – particularly for the evenings and early mornings – January is a great time to visit Jordan.
