Day04

Draa Valley to Erg Chigaga

Begin your day with a guided walk through the lush palm groves of the Draa Valley, gaining insight into traditional oasis life and sampling sweet local dates.

Continue by road to Zagora and Tamengroute, renowned as some of the best places to visit in Morocco for their distinctive green-glazed pottery, which is still fired in traditional earth ovens and has been traded across the country for centuries.

Travel onward to M’hamid, where the paved road ends and an adventurous off-road journey leads you deep into the remote dunes of Erg Chigaga, a defining experience of a desert and Marrakesh trip.

Upon arrival at camp, meet your camel guide and set out on a serene sunset camel trek, as golden sands fade into twilight and the desert sky fills with stars.

quotes

When exploring the Draa Valley and Erg Chigaga, wear light layers and bring a scarf, as desert mornings can be cool while afternoons warm up quickly. Take the time to connect with your camel guide, as desert hospitality is deeply personal and often becomes one of the most memorable parts of the journey.

Day05

Erg Chigaga, Foum Zquid, Taznakht, Marrakech

Wake to sunrise over the dunes of Erg Chigaga, then after breakfast begin the drive back to Marrakech, crossing off-road plains and the mirage-like Lake Iriki. At Foum Zguid, rejoin the paved road and follow the Anti-Atlas Mountains toward Taznakht.

Stop at the Taznakht carpet cooperative to meet local weavers and learn traditional dyeing and knotting techniques, then continue across the High Atlas to Marrakech.
