“What an amazing experience. My husband and I were looking to visit Morocco and were not keen on a self-drive (which I still do not recommend) and also did not want to join in a group. We did have the option of taking a private tour with a South African operator but decided on Tilila Travel through Rough Guides. It turned out to be the best choice. They helped us with the planning of the route, suggested sites and activities, arranged all the local guides, accommodation etc, and even arranged for a Moroccan sim card (which worked better than the E-sim in rural areas). Always very quick to respond to our request and help with the visa applications. Our personal guide Tawfiq met us at the airport, and was on call through the trip, for pickups and transfers, meeting with guides, suggesting restaurants, finding banks, warning us of scams – you name it. We were so pampered. But even better, from the start we told Tawfiq that we wanted to have an authentic experience, and that is what he gave us: - a meal with a Berber farmer and his family; cooking classes in a Marrakech home; a picnic Moroccan style among the Rabat locals, and so many tales and insights. He went beyond the itinerary so that we could experience the true Moroccan culture, away from the more touristic spots. Tawfiq treated us like royalty, and we felt safe in his charge . We will definitely use Tillia and Rough Guides again.”

“I used to live in Morocco many years ago and wanted to revisit memorable places and old friends. I was excited to see that Rough Guides partners with local companies to provide customized trips. Mohamed from Tilila Travel was happy to discuss our needs and preferences. We settled on a package only about 5 weeks before our departure, which meant that he could not secure all of the hotels that we preferred, but most of the ones he booked were “good” to “excellent”. We spent 16 nights touring the country with our wonderful driver, Ibrahim, who was especially careful, prompt and helpful. We couldn’t have asked for a better chaperone, who was happy to share his knowledge of Moroccan culture, great restaurants and side trips. The trip was well organized; we especially enjoyed the knowledgeable guides in the cities as well as the Merzouga desert experience (when my husband did not enjoy the camel ride, we were offered a 4X4 for the return trip, which was really fun). Mohamed checked in regularly by phone to make sure all was going well. Morocco is a gorgeous country with a very solid tourist infrastructure, and the hospitality that I experienced many years ago is still alive and well.”

We can’t praise the tour highly enough The range of foods we tasted and the kindness of the shop keepers was fantastic. This ranged from traditional breakfast items to taste if 5 different sheep’s cheese to the most incredible Moroccan tea If you are visiting Fes don’t pass up a chance to go on a tour with Amal”

We had organised our own stay in Marrakech but hadn't felt confident in undertaking the remainder of a packed itinerary to three other cities by ourselves. “Our expert in Morocco was a great choice We normally prefer to explore overseas destinations on our own, but for Morocco we decided that it would be less stressful to have a tour company take care of us and we are definitely glad we did! We just came back from a 7-day/6-night tour of Morocco arranged by Rough Guides through a local tour company. Overall it was a great experience. It was good value, the tour company and driver assigned to us were honest, trustworthy and responsive, and the hotels and local day guides that they arranged for us were all good recommendations. The tour company assigned us a driver named Tawfiq for the entire duration of the trip. Tawfiq is a terrific asset to the company. He is a safe and thoughtful driver and we felt safe in his care. Also, although he was not a formal guide he knew a lot about the places we visited and shared many interesting and useful insights about Morocco. Tawfiq also made sure to call ahead and ensure the hotels could meet us on arrival (which sometimes required a porter to carry our bags uphill or down very confusing alleyways in the old city), as well as meeting and handing us off to local guides. Tawfiq was available on WhatsApp (for Americans, it is a helpful texting/phone app overseas), so we had no problems arranging daily logistics for pickup, etc. Our tour started in Tangier where we were picked up at the airport, and continued over 7 days to Chefchaouen, Volabilis, Meknes, Fes, Rabat, Casablanca and Marrakesh, and included drop off at our departure airport at Marrakesh. The tour company was very helpful in helping us modify their initial "best of" recommended itinerary to match our flights and preferences. I would note that we did most of our communications arranging our trip directly with Mohamed, the owner of the tour company. Because of the time we had and the way the different cities are laid out, our itinerary did make for some long drives which they thoughtfully broke up into 1-3 hour segments. Our driver Tawfiq was very helpful planning rest stops and meals along the way, and you should not be shy about letting your driver know if you need to take a break. The hotels that they arranged for us were all quite good, clean with helpful service and good-to-decent breakfasts. I guess there is always a fear of getting sick but we were pretty lucky and no one had any digestive problems even though we ate out almost every day at local restaurants outside our hotels. The tour company also arranged for local licensed guides with expertise in specific locales. These local guides covered a full day in Fes, a half-day in Marrakesh, and 1 hour in Volabilis (ancient Roman ruins) and 2 hours in Meknes. You do not need to pay these guides separately, but it is customary to give them a tip. The guides were generally pretty good (special mention for Amal in Fes), but you should not be shy if you need them to slow down or speak more clearly. One point I think worth mentioning is that in the bigger cities, the guides included stops at various shops, including shops selling berber rugs, leather goods and ceramics. I have been on trips (e.g., Venice) where you find yourself in high-pressure sale situations. This is not that. These stops give you a view into the local culture and economy, and if you are interested, a chance to buy from respectable sellers. If you really do not want to be taken to any shops or merchants, you should say so, or ask your guide if you need help (although normally the guides will sit outside the shop and let you shop at leisure). For our family of three adults (2 hotel rooms each night), it came out to approx USD 330 per person per night, including an English-speaking driver and large van, 2 rooms each night at a 4- or 5-star riad-style hotel, breakfast was inclusive. The expense included hiring the local guides.”

“We had a great trip by the most reputable company with great service by Mohammed , manager ,and our driver Yassin. We spent 9 days with a family of five travelling from Casablanca to Marrakesh to Fez and Essaouira and Ouarzazate. Everything worked perfectly and Mohammed was very good about adding extra stops without adding extra charges. He was always available on the phone to answer questions. Our driver Yassin was great. He was patient, well informed and spoke perfect English. I have travelled in more than 180 countries and this agent ranks among the best.”

“We took a customized 6 days private package for a family of three from Mohammed that covers Merrakech, Essaouira, Atlas mountain/Ourica valley, and Agafay desert. So in 6 days we are able to explore Merrakech, see the coast and beach in Essaouira, the mountain and ber ber village in Ourica valley, and camel + quad ride with desert dinner and show with private guide, private driver and cars. We had a lot of free time to explore anything we want and able to make connection and friendship with our guides who are very friendly and very accommodating to our needs. Definitely recommended for first time visitor to Morocco like us but the service is very good and experienced that we are considering to have Mohamed to arrange the next specific trip to Morocco for our next family vacation. “Tawfiq was a great ambassador for your company. His upbeat personality and his love for Morocco was infectious. We even had a wonderful lunch at his families home. He was a very safe driver and certainly knew the culture of Morocco. We really took care of us and our needs. He was also very punctual. As a group, I think Tilia could leave off the Hercules caves. It was expensive, very little information provided and little to see. Highlights were our desert experience and the city guides were well informed.”

“I waited a few days after returning from a 14 day tour organized for me by Mohamed at Tilila Travel. I am lost for words that can express my gratitude. I want to share my experience with everyone in search of an honest, knowledgeable, professional, fair, flexible, responsible, detailed & trustworthy travel agent in Morocco. Instead of joining a group tour, I asked Mohammed to quote me a price for just one person, adding some stops, changing cities each day and upgrading my accommodations to 4-stars ratings; 3 star hotels are the norm on most group tour packages. I wanted 4 stars as this was my first visit to Morocco. Mohamed suggested a mix of Riads, Dars, resorts, Kasbahs, B&B’s & a even a Deluxe Tent in the Sahara. All were very good to excellent and perfectly deserving of a 4 star classification, except for the last night hotel which classified itself as 5 stars (Palais dei Princesses in Marrakesh). Maybe at one time it deserved 5 stars; but, no longer. In terms of room size, cleanliness of common areas, front desk staff behavior, restaurant, services & even the furniture, it is at MOST 3 stars; avoid it. There was a snag at the Casablanca hotel (average) caused by a hotel bookkeeping error & a rude check-in agent. As this was my first visit to Morocco I wanted to see as many cities as possible so that when I returned to Morocco I could visit my favorite cities. I knew my request presented a challenge as I would be asking the assigned driver to drive many hours each day. In just a few days Mohamed created a detailed proposal for an escorted solo tour which included a driver, comfortable vehicle, specialized guides in 4 of the stops, breakfasts each day & some dinners (included by Mohamed without me even asking). Mohamed also said I could alter the tour as I saw fit in case I was tired or changed my mind on a scheduled stop. The final step: agree on a price. As a guide, I used the cost (for one person) of an advertised group tour (adding the solo traveler supplement) & came up with what I thought would be a fair price. We went back & forth a few times & came to an agreement. I chose Tilila Travel because of the exceptional reviews others have submitted. All those 5-star reviews are accurate: Mohamed IS exceptional. I would recommend him to anyone wanting a perfectly planned, comfortable & safe tour of Morocco at a fair price. Whether you are a solo traveler like myself, or a small group of family or friends, ask Tilila Travel to make all arrangements. Each day, my driver Kamal would suggest a departure time and once I was in our van, Kamal took care of everything; from the time we began our day until the time we arrived at the overnight accommodation at which time I had personal/alone time; perfect. About my diver Kamal; In my opinion you want a driver to drive safely, to know the roads & the vehicle, to know exactly where we are at all times, to be familiar with every city or site on the itinerary, punctual, well-groomed, polite, organized, helpful (including translations where needed), flexible & able to communicate. Kamal fulfilled every requirement. Better yet, as I wanted to improve my intermediate French language skills, I chose to primarily communicate in French. Although Kamal could communicate in English, his French was excellent so I saw it as an opportunity to turn the tour into a 14 day French conversation class. Every day, I felt more comfortable speaking French although I would periodically turn to English when I got stuck. The entire experience, from planning to execution, was excellent. I found Mohamed to be responsible, kind, and most importantly, honest. He is one of the best travel agents I have encountered. In my opinion, you’ll be making the right decision if you ask him to organize your stay in Morocco.”
