start planning

February is the last month of winter in Jordan, and for most parts, the weather is distinctly chilly. Towards the end of the month, the early signs of spring blooms begin to appear in the northern landscapes, making outdoor exploration all the more delightful. While snowfall in highland regions is less frequent, it’s still possible. Even though temperatures in destinations like Amman and Petra start to inch up, you should still pack warm clothes, and a waterproof jacket to cope with intermittent rain. If you’re looking for a destination where you can enjoy frequent outdoor activities, the milder Dead Sea and Aqaba areas are a great choice in February.

  • The typical temperature range for Jordan in February is 37°F to 57°F (3°C to 14°C). Evenings in Petra are the coldest, while Aqaba and the Dead Sea record the warmest daily averages.
  • With increasing daylight hours, February offers a comfortable climate for hiking to Petra. Relaxing at Aqaba’s beaches and enjoying the water activities are also popular at this time of year.
  • February continues Jordan’s low season, with sparse tourist traffic at most destinations. Generally, lower demand means that accommodation, flights, and tours remain reasonably priced.

What is the weather like in Jordan in February?

February in Jordan is still winter, but daytime temps are mild enough to get out and explore without sweating through your clothes. Nights, especially in the desert, can get cold fast, so you’ll want to bring layers if you’re heading to Wadi Rum.

The weather in Jordan in February is dry in the south and a bit wetter in the north. Amman might see 60 to 70mm of rain, while the desert usually stays mostly dry with only 10 to 15mm. The Dead Sea area is also pretty dry, and Aqaba’s Red Sea waters are still warm enough for diving.

It’s shoulder season, which means fewer crowds and more manageable prices. If you don’t mind the chance of a cool night or quick shower, it’s a solid month for ruins, hikes, and stargazing.

Is February a good time to visit Jordan?

Jordan is still reasonably free of tourists in this late winter month, and costs are lower than in the peak season. So for those seeking a more peaceful travel experience on a tight budget, February could be the perfect time to travel.

The cooler temperatures make February a great month for exploring Petra, Jerash, and Wadi Rum without the heat of summer. The Dead Sea remains an inviting retreat, offering sunny, dry days. However, the weather in Jordan in February can be unpredictable as the winter gives way to spring, so bring a mix of warm and lighter layers to stay comfortable in Jordan’s varying climates. A waterproof jacket is also a good idea, as rain is common, especially in the northern regions.

You will find less expensive accommodations and fewer crowds in February because it’s still considered off-season. Whether you want to go hiking in Petra or enjoy the pleasant beach weather in Aqaba, February can be an enjoyable time to visit Jordan. For more tips, see our guide to how to plan a trip to Jordan

  • Comfortable temperatures for Petra exploration
  • Fewer tourists at major sites
  • Possible rain disrupts outdoor plans
  • Cold desert nights require warm clothing
  • Dead Sea and Aqaba still accessible for water activities

What about the crowds and cost?

February is still Jordan’s low season, with few tourists visiting the nation’s major attractions. Petra and Amman are especially serene, allowing visitors to enjoy a tranquil environment while they explore these iconic cultural and historical sites.

Lower demand means that accommodations, flights, and tours remain reasonably priced, offering good value for money. Aqaba and the Dead Sea attract slightly more visitors seeking warmth, but these areas are far from crowded. For those who prefer a relaxed and budget-friendly experience, February offers the perfect combination of affordability and a crowd-free environment.  If you're still deciding, see our guide to the best time to visit Jordan

Where to go to Jordan in February

February in Jordan means mild, dry days and clear skies across most of the country. You can see more, stay out longer, and move around without worrying about heatstroke or dehydration. Here are some of the best places to visit in Jordan

Petra

Petra’s a lot of walking, so February is a gift. The morning chill keeps you moving, and by the time you reach the monastery, the sun has warmed everything up. The changing winter light across the rock faces is hard to beat, and with fewer people around, you can linger longer at the Treasury or climb to some of the less-visited tombs.

Wadi Rum

Wadi Rum in February feels like the desert is working with you. The sun keeps the days warm, but not hot. Nights get cold, but that’s perfect for campfires and stargazing. The skies are clear, the sand is soft, and the rock faces change color every hour. Camel rides and jeep tours are comfortable without the risk of overheating, and you can try things like sandboarding or rock climbing without baking in the sun.

Amman and Jerash

Amman in February is pleasant and walkable. You can climb to the Citadel without overheating and sit with a view of the city that goes on forever. The museums are manageable in a day, and the coffee stores stay lively without being packed. Souks are local again. If you're heading to Jerash, the Roman ruins show off in the winter light, and you’re more likely to have them to yourself. You can walk the whole Cardo Maximus, imagine the crowds in the Oval Plaza, and still be back in Amman in time for a long dinner on Rainbow Street. Here are some of the best things to do in Amman

Things to do in Jordan in February

Generally, the weather in Jordan in February continues to be cool, but these conditions are excellent for exploring ancient ruins and trekking through the natural landscapes. If you want some warmer weather, head to the Dead Sea or Aqaba, where the lower elevation means temperatures are higher. Here are some of the best things to do in Jordan in February to get the most out of your trip.

Hiking to Petra

The weather in Jordan in February provides perfect conditions for hiking in Petra, as it's not too hot, not too cold, and not too busy. Venture to less-visited sites like the High Place of Sacrifice or Little Petra, and appreciate the calm and quiet environment.

Dead Sea wellness retreats

The highlight of a visit to the Dead Sea is floating in the cobalt-blue lake itself, known for its therapeutic waters. But if the water is too cold for you in February, treat yourself to a mineral spa at a local resort, where you can coat yourself with invigorating black mineral mud scooped from the floor of the Dead Sea.

Wadi Mujib adventure

If you’re willing to brave the chillier temperatures and the chance of rain, February is a great month to visit Wadi Rum's stunning canyon landscapes without the crowds. There may be some trails closed in winter, but there are plenty of accessible paths from which you can enjoy dramatic vistas. For more advice, see our Jordan travel tips.
