Japan // Around Tokyo //

In the evening you’re best off eating in your hotel, but Motomachi does have a reasonable choice of restaurants in among the ramen and soba joints. Among a row of little places opposite the port, Otomodachi (おともだち; daily 7am–3pm & 5–10pm; t 04992/2-0061) is a reliable bet serving a broad range of reasonably priced set meals (dishes from ¥700). Moving up a notch, Sushikō (寿し光; 11am–2pm & 5–11pm; t 04992/2-0888), upstairs in a modern building, just south of the ferry terminal and on the left, has sushi and sashimi sets from ¥1000, as well as pizzas, salads, donburi and the like. Umisachi (魚味幸; Mon–Sat 5–11pm; t 04992/2-2942), a friendly izakaya on the east side of town, is also worth seeking out: from the port walk east up to the main north–south road, go straight across at the traffic lights and you’ll find it on the left where the road makes a right-hand bend.
