At least fifty minutes out to sea from Cartagena, about 35 kilometers southwest of the city, lies an archipelago of small coral islands known as the Islas del Rosario, set within transparent turquoise waters. The archipelago comprises 27 islands, many of them private islets scarcely large enough for a single bungalow.

Nearby, though not technically part of the chain, Playa Blanca on Barú Island stands out as one of the most popular beach destinations and a highlight of an unforgettable Colombia trip.
