By bus

Duration: 2-3 hours | Cost: from $4

For the budget-conscious traveller, buses offer a cost-effective means of reaching Pattaya. With a travel time of approximately 2 to 2.5 hours, these rides provide an opportunity to enjoy the scenic beauty of the Thai countryside.

Bangkok features three primary bus terminals: Sai Tai Mai in the south, Morchit in the north, and Ekkamai in the east.

You will want to account for traffic which may add time to your journey. You’ll also want to consider how much luggage you have with you, as many buses will limit the amount each passenger can bring on.

By Minivan

Duration: 2 hours | Cost: from $6

Minivans, being notably smaller than buses and typically accommodating a maximum of 15 passengers, offer enhanced comfort, increased speed, and greater convenience during your journey.

This option is only slightly more expensive than the bus but is noticeably more convenient. Drivers, upon request, can make stops (for restroom breaks, for example).

While some individuals may express concerns about the safety of minivans, it's essential to note that this was a problem in the past, primarily due to speeding drivers and inadequately maintained vehicles. However, recent years have seen significant improvements in regulations, addressing and enhancing the safety issues associated with minivan transportation.

By taxi

Duration: 1.5 - 2  hours | Cost: from $50

For those who prefer a more personalised and direct journey, taxis offer convenience and comfort. The travel time is comparable to that of minivans, taking approximately 1.5 to 2 hours.

This option is very convenient as taxis will pick you and your travel companions up directly from your accommodation or the airport. It’s also possible to make stops along the way.

Some hotels will be happy to schedule a taxi for you.

By train

Duration: 3 hours | Cost: from $6

Train travel adds a touch of nostalgia to the journey, with a scenic route that takes around 3 hours. While the duration is slightly longer, the experience of train travel can be a highlight of the trip.

That said, to most, the train is an unpopular option. It should be also noted that air conditioning is not guaranteed on your ride.
