Cruising the Galapagos (Eastern Islands on M/Y Beluga)

My parents and I had an amazing trip aboard the Beluga this past year. We took the chance of a lifetime and we did not regret it. The Galapagos for me brings back memories of the excitement when Jurassic Park first aired and the anticipation of seeing a strange new alien world. All my expectations came true, there are "dinosaurs" on the Galápagos Islands and a lot more! We absolutely loved the Beluga and all her crew. We felt at home and at peace the entire time we were aboard. She is truly beautiful, and the perfect ship to explore the Galapagos. She is one of the smaller boats, taking only 16 passengers, but after seeing some of the larger boats and their big groups we were very pleased with our decision. Tons of decks space to lounge around on. You never felt cramped on the boat and every one was able to find their spot to relax. The rooms are great for a boat this size (we were actually expecting it to be a little cramped). They may not be the size of a hotel room but there is plenty of space to put your bags and stretch out and every room has their own ensuite. Nice lounge area too. This is where you will eat your meals and receive demonstrations from your guide at night about the activities for the next day. Our guide Darwin, (fitting name I know) was awesome! He was very energetic and enthusiastic about the islands. His knowledge was beyond the level we needed. He also was very aware of all the passengers needs and would always preempt to help someone. Some of the landings are a little tricky (not that bad) so some people need help. My father has bad knees but it was never a big problem. Darwin is young and fit and was able assist people that needed extra help. For the second best part of the trip, the food! The chef Pedro cooked up a feast three times a day. All the food was excellent, consisting of a variety of dishes, both Ecuadorean and international cuisine. You will never be hungry on this boat and you will wonder how you gained those couple extra pounds while walking and swimming for seven days. Also the bar has very reasonable prices so no worries there. We went on the tower itinerary which took us up to tower. We got to see so much on land and in the water. All the walks were easy and we always had the option of staying back if we wanted. The snorkelling was my favourite part. If you aren't a confident swimmer there are many easy places where you can snorkel with some of them being off a beach. You always have the option to opt out. The absolute highlight of our trip was up in tower. We had an early visit on land to see some red footed boobies nesting in trees among other birds. As we were walking, Darwin picked up on something in the ocean. He told us conditions were perfect, low tide, early in the morning and some other things I couldn't quite tell. I just new he was getting a little excited. So we all opted to cut our walk a bit short (something you get to do in a small boat) and get in the water curious of what Darwin was on about. We quickly changed, hopped in the zodiacs and headed to the snorkel spot. Darwin was the first in the water and we all followed. As soon as we were in the water Darwin spotted them. HAMMER HEADS! Lots of them all over swimming beneath our bodies. There were some big ones and lots of little ones. I know this sounds scary and something most people would avoid but it was one of the most peaceful, awe inspiring moments of my life. There may of been hundreds of them but I couldn't count them all as they were swimming into and out of the deep. Just incredible, I can't say this happens every time and I think we were very lucky. We gained a different respect for the ocean and its creatures swimming with these majestic animals. This was the perfect ending to an amazing trip. Thank you so much to Insight Guides, The Beluga, the crew and Darwin. We did have a voyage of a life time and cannot wait to visit the Galápagos Islands again one day!

I just could summarize our vacation in one word: “FANTASTIC”! This is of course related to the place itself, as Thailand definitely offers a wonderful blend of nature beauty with lot of diversity, culture, tastes and people kindness. But, the superior quality of our vacation is also a tribute to your thoughtful recommendations and perfect arrangements regarding the locations, activities, accommodations and overall services.
