Where to go in Nepal in April
April sits in the heart of Nepal’s spring season, when trekking routes are clear, skies are mostly dry, and wildflowers bloom across the hills. You’ll still get cool mornings in the mountains, but daytime is comfortable, even at elevation. It’s one of the most popular months to visit — and for good reason.
Ghorepani and Poon Hill
If you want the views without a full high-altitude commitment, the Ghorepani trek is ideal in April. Its relatively short route, spring color and big mountain panoramas make it a strong fit for 9-day Nepal trips, especially when you want a manageable trek that still feels scenic and rewarding.
Rhododendron forests are in full bloom, lighting up the hillsides in red and pink, and sunrise from Poon Hill gives you wide-open views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. Trails are busy this month, but the scenery makes it worth it. The route is relatively short and well-paced, making it doable even if you’re not an experienced trekker.
Kathmandu Valley
April is a great time to explore the cultural side of Nepal. The weather is warm, the skies are clearer than in summer, and festivals often take place this month. You can base yourself in Kathmandu, Patan, or Bhaktapur and take your time with the temples, markets, and small hikes between towns. Look out for local celebrations like Bisket Jatra in Bhaktapur, where chariot parades and street rituals mark the Nepali New Year.
Chitwan National Park
Chitwan is at its best in April. The tall grass has been cut back, which makes wildlife spotting much easier, and the park is still relatively dry before the summer rains begin. You have a good chance of seeing rhinos, crocodiles, and birds, and even tigers if you’re lucky. Jeep safaris, canoe rides, and jungle walks all run smoothly this month. It’s warm, so lightweight clothing is key — and early mornings are your best bet for animal sightings.
