Average daily temperatures in September
The air feels a little fresher throughout Germany in September as the summer heat subsides, but average temperatures are still reasonably warm. However, some regions are a few degrees warmer than others.
Berlin’s daytime highs average 66°F (19°C), while lows fall to about 51°F (11°C). Southern areas, including Munich, see temperatures ranging from 63°F to 70°F (17°C to 21°C), with nighttime lows between 47°F and 52°F (8°C and 11°C). The mountain areas begin to chill down earlier in the month.
Northern cities such as Hamburg and Bremen experience highs around 62°F to 67°F (17°C to 19°C) and lows between 49°F and 53°F (9°C and 12°C). Central and western Germany, including Frankfurt and the Moselle Valley, enjoy the warmest averages, ranging from 67°F to 72°F (19°C to 22°C) and overnight lows near 52°F (11°C).
What about the crowds and cost?
Sightseeing in Germany is more manageable in September when the peak summer months have passed. Hiking trails are reasonably peaceful, cities like Berlin and Munich are less congested, while historic sites and towns like Lübeck are more accessible.
Accommodation and transport costs begin to drop. However if you're planning a trip to Germany this month, in late September, Munich’s renowned Oktoberfest drives prices up and necessitates early reservations across Bavaria. Unless you’re attending the festival, it’s best to stay away from this region.
All things considered, September is one of the best months to come to Germany because it combines brilliant weather conditions with moderate crowd levels and reasonable travel costs.
