Is January a good time to visit Zurich?

It’s certainly an ideal time to visit if you’re up for embracing a full winter experience.  You’ll still find Christmas markets open even after the festive season, and the urban ice rinks are great fun.  You can then warm up in the welcoming and cozy cafés and restaurants. The shorter days and colder temperatures mean the city lights and decorations come into their own, as do indoor attractions. It should go without saying that you should pack appropriately for the weather; warm clothes are a must.

This month sees moderate crowds as it’s a popular winter season; you’ll find that tourist attractions and winter events are lively and bustling. The beauty of the snow-covered landscapes and the vibrant atmosphere make this month a great time for a visit.

What about the crowds & cost?

This is peak winter season in Zurich, meaning more crowds at popular destinations. Higher accommodation, excursion, and flight costs should be expected compared to other months. The stunning winter scenery and the opportunity to enjoy the seasonal spirit of the city often justify the extra expense of a visit during this period.
