Podcast: How music gave a voice to a marginalised community

On the Tanzanian island of Ukerewe, and across sub-Saharan Africa, people with albinism are persecuted in devastating and unimaginable ways.

In the summer of 2016, Grammy Award-winning producer Ian Brennan travelled to the island with the charity Standing Voice, armed with a load of microphones and musical instruments.

People with albinism are not allowed to sing in church, and this was the first time many of them had touched a musical instrument before. In the days and weeks that followed, the Tanzania Albinism Collective was born and the album White African Power was recorded.

In this episode of The Rough Guide to Everywhere, podcast host Greg Dickinson catches up with Ian, plus a member of the Tanzania Albinism Collective named Riziki and his translator Alex, to hear their story.
