Câmpulung, or CÂMPULUNG MUSCEL (as it is properly known), 53km north of Piteşti, dates back to pre-Roman times and has played an important role in Wallachia’s history, including a stint as the region’s first capital after the voivodate was forged around 1300. While the town is no great shakes, it’s a convenient place to break a journey to Transylvania, with a couple of diversions to keep you occupied.
