The southwest

The area immediately west of Helsinki is a region of interminable forests interrupted by modest-sized patches of water and wooden villa towns. The far southwestern corner is more interesting, with islands and inlets around a jagged shoreline, a spectacular archipelago stretching halfway to Sweden and some distinctive Finnish-Swedish coastal communities.
