There are direct flights from more than a dozen UK airports, and from New York JFK, to Prague’s Ruzyně Airport (t220 113 314, wwww.prg.aero/cs), 10km northwest of the city. Several international routes (including one from London Stansted by Ryanair) serve Brno, and there are a couple of flights a week to and from Karlovy Vary (wwww.airport-k-vary.cz).

Prague is served by direct train services from numerous major European cities, including Bratislava, Berlin, Vienna and Budapest.

Eurolines (wwww.eurolines.com) runs good international bus services to the Czech Republic, as does Student Agency (wwww.studentagencybus.com), which also runs between Prague and other Czech cities. Tourbus (wwww.tourbus.cz) goes to Prague, Brno, Olomouc and other major cities.

Transport planning is often the foundation of a realistic itinerary. Rough Guides works with vetted Czech Republic local experts who create personalized trip plans from scratch around arrival points, travel times, regional connections, and the way you prefer to travel. You can compare up to 3 different itineraries and refine the preferred route together with the local travel agent before the trip is finalized.
