The Swiss heartland Travel Guide

The Mittelland – between Lake Geneva and Zürich, flanked by the Jura range to the north and the high Alps to the south – is a region of lakes, gentle hills and some higher peaks. There’s a wealth of cultural and historical interest in the cities of Basel, Luzern and the federal capital, Bern. Wherever you are, the mountains are never more than a couple of hours away by train.

Engelberg

Under 50 minutes from Luzern by train is the picturesque Alpine resort of Engelberg, from where a revolving cable car serves the snowbound summit of Mount Titlis (3239m), the highest point in Central Switzerland (titlis.ch). Here you can hit the snow year-round, with countless rental deals for snowboards, as well as for mountain bikes, scooters and Devil Bikes.
