“A Trip of a Lifetime! Martina and the staff at Rough Guides did an amazing job organizing a long and rather complicated trip for me and my family to Sicily, Calabria, and the Amalfi Coast. After almost 4 weeks of travel, I can honestly say that everything pretty much worked without a hitch. The places we stayed were perfect for our needs (my husband and I, plus our adult son whose girlfriend decided to join us at the last minute), the guides for our private tours were knowledgeable and extremely accommodating, and the drivers (we rented a car for only two segments of the trip) were prompt and professional. We really had no complaints, and in fact agree that this was a true trip of a lifetime. It couldn't have happened the way it did without the Rough Guides team.”

“Awesome Italy trip - Rough Guide's nailed it! We had an awesome trip to Italy thanks to Rough Guides and Martina, our local travel planner/expert in Italy who planned the entire trip for us. She was very responsive to all our questions and worked diligently to put our trip together. We were 3 couples on a 16-night journey staying in 5 different cities and we had prepared ourselves that we would probably hit a bump in the road somewhere along the line with such an extensive itinerary. Much to our delight, everything went perfectly. All of the drivers and tour guides were excellent, arriving on time and going out of their way to be accommodating to our group's desires. The tours were all top notch and the guides so professional and knowledgeable, but still fun! Included in our trip was a farm stay with a cooking class in Tuscany which was a highlight for sure. All of the hotels on our journey were perfect, beautiful with great staff, and great locations. Choosing a travel company to plan your trip can be a leap in faith, but we couldn't be more pleased with the job Martina and Rough Guides did for us.”

“Rough Guides arranged a 5 city Italy tour for 6 of us including Venice, Florence, Tuscany, Rome, and Amalfi Coast. We stayed several days in each city so had time to learn the city before moving on. RG's hotels were nice in our 4* guidance. Locations were good although wish our Rome hotel had been inside the city wall so it was closer to exploring the hot spots at nite. Our guides for museums and historic sites were terrific. Our drivers were top notch. RG's communications were good. The only other comment I would make was to try and get more in the shoulder season if there is one as Uffizi Gallery, Sistine Chapel, and other sites like Positano were too crowded to appreciate like they deserve. Would recommend RG to others.”

“Guides were wonderful, drivers excellent, great accommodations but the communication available while we were in Sicily was superb ! Any time there was any issue (and we did have a couple) they were sorted very quickly and competently. Marianne, who put together our 10 day Itinerary was great, not an easy feat with 11 opinions/ requests! Our only disapointment was Mt. Etna, the hike was too challenging for our group and would have been better had we had something with minimal hiking and vehicle/gondola as were available at the base.( Just to note: one of our group walks 10 miles a day but found it difficult).”

“I worked with Valentine for our trip to Berlin and Prague with an in-between overnight in Dresden. It took a little while (many merci's for your patience, Valentine!) but we ended up with a truly spectacular trip to Central Europe. Perfect hotels for our particular context in each city, fabulous walking tours in Berlin and Prague, all transportation anticipated and facilitated, museum ticket entries arranged, and very excellent suggestions for our touristing interests. For instance, we would never have thought of spending a day in the amazing parks of Saxon and Bohemian Switzerland (aka Narnia) - one of the many high points of our trip. Even our departure day was made sooooo much easier by the reservation of a private care at 4 in the morning. This was my first time using a travel agency for the entirety of an international trip. I am very glad I chose to do so.”

“We've used Insight Guides now three times (more to come) and I'll be rating this third time. It was an 8 day trip for 5 to Belgium and The Netherlands. Our travel coordinator Valentine was exceptional. We spent a few communications back and forth to discuss ideas and durations in each country. A tweak here and there with great suggestions for things we hadn't thought of. All communication was clear. In the end - it was flawless. In particular, the lodging in both locations was amazing - central location for either walking or hopping a bus/tram or a train as needed, for restaurants too. She arranged private tours for the 5 of us and every tour guide was knowledgeable, enthusiastic and tailored things to us as we went. Each one contacted us a few hours before our meeting time (via WhatsApp) to ensure a smooth meet-up. She pre-purchased our train tickets. All trip information came in a lovely PDF prior to the trip with imbedded links we could access as the trip progressed. I'll add that 2 of our folks got sick midway and Valentine was able to cancel one of our tour guides and fully refunded that portion of the money. She checked in a day later to see how they were feeling. She also checked in just to make sure we didn't need anything or have any questions. SUPERB!”

“Chere Valentine, I wanted to take the time to thank you for the excellent arrangements you made for us on our trip to Nice. The entire experience was wonderful! The Hotel West End was very good, with a most comfortable room and fabulous view. The daily breakfast offered an abundance of choices. The BEST day was the cooking class with Rosa Jackson! We enjoyed the 2 full day guided excursion. One day we walked about 10 miles, visiting the Chagall and Matisse museums, and exploring the heights of Nice. Another day, we rented e-bikes and took a panoramic tour to Villefranche-Sur-Mer and a nature preserve. On our last day we explored the antiques market in the Cours Saleya, then spent the afternoon at the Blue Beach club, which was a treat. “We recently returned from a 14-day visit to France organized by Vaseem Akarim. As international travel veterans (more than 100 countries combined), we were extremely impressed by the detailed itinerary and personal suggestions prepared by Vaseem. All three of our different hotel stays were excellent with gracious hosts, all of the many transfers were punctual and performed by experience drivers, and all of the tours scheduled by Vaseem were led by knowledgable and personable guides. This was my fifth visit to France and my wife’s second and certainly the best experience in the country for both of us. “I cannot say enough good things about working with Rough Guides, and especially our local expert, Vaseem. We spent two weeks in southwest France, traveling initially for a wedding in Rodez and then spending 9 days traveling in the region, including Toulouse, the Pyrenees, Basque country and finally flying back to the US from Bilboa. I had never used a travel company before - always booking everything on my own. But this trip I was feeling overwhelmed with all the choices of where to visit and stay and found Rough Guides through an Internet search - and I'm so glad I did! Vaseem took care of everything, including planning our route and booking our rental car, hotels, excursion tickets...and calming my nerves!! In fact, everything was better than we expected. The drivers and tour guides were timely and very professional. Transfers happened as planned and without any issues. The accommodations were wonderful! And we really appreciated how Annalisa worked to secure an additional night for us in Catania with very short notice after an airline canceled and rebooked a flight requiring us to arrive a day early. She ensured the hotel staff were aware of our situation and they allowed us to check-in very early so we could get some rest. “Rough Guides put together 2 itineraries, one for Sicily for our extended family of 8 and one for the Amalfi Coast area for 2. All the accommodations were excellent. Drivers were arranged and they were all on time with clean and spacious cars. We had tour guides in several locations, and they were all very good and could adapt the content to the group. The Rough Guides staff were accessible during our travels when we needed some additional unexpected assistance. In addition, the hotel staff were all friendly to our family members. “We planned, with the assistance of two in-country travel agents, a four-week trip to Italy. We wanted to go to places we had not been and ended up moving around quite a bit as we saw many cities. The agents, Annalisa and Martina, were terrific, offering many suggestions and tailoring the trip to exactly what we wanted. The only uncertain moments we had usually involved transit from one place to another, and we got all the help we needed from Annalisa and support staff. They booked trains, walking tours, sightseeing tickets, and answered any questions we had. Because we didn't want to drive there (a really good decision if you want to see the "centro," or old part of an Italian city) they booked drivers for us to make transit connections and hotels, and to get to places that would have inaccessible otherwise. This allowed us to see and do things we would have never done otherwise. So five stars for our agents and their performance. A word of caution in paying for the trip: The Rough Guides IT people seemed to have problems processing credit cards. I would now start a week before the deadline in order to use the card I wanted to. It was a $350+ hit in currency conversion fees because of being forced to use another card.”

“Wonderful trip to Italy My husband and I just returned from a wonderful trip to Italy. We booked our trip through Rough Guides who put us in touch with a local travel agent, Analisa. She customized the perfect itinerary for us, and we could not have been happier with her service. We visited Sorrento, Florence and Rome. Analisa arranged three beautiful hotels, numerous day trips, and all of our transportation including private drivers and train tickets. She gave us an emergency phone contact if we had any questions during our trip. It was all perfect, there is no way I could have done all this by myself. I would not hesitate to book another trip with Analisa in the future!”
