Julie from Rough Guides put together an itinerary for the two of us travelling around India for four weeks. We both tweaked it until we were both completely happy. It was a wonderful experience, and Julie's depth of knowledge and attention to detail made it a most amazing month for both of us. We had a wonderful trip though parts of South India. Using an agency was a difficult decision, as my partner and I have travelled for decades under our own steam and with so much less advance planning than was involved here. What we appreciated was the possibility to 'offload' some of the on-site organisation that, while undoubtedly giving you an insight into a society and culture, also means time spent on the phone, in a queue or online. This, when you could be out there and experience an aspect of the country, that does NOT remind you of trying to contact the likes of Scottish Power (feel free to replace by any other profiteering untility). Being able to determine hotels ourselves and also to tailor the mix between where we did our own thing and where the local agency booked things for us was great. The local agency got very quickly how we wanted to travel. Where they advised us against options, they really knew what they were talking about and suggested undoubtedly better alternatives. Communication was clear and naturaly friendly. Where we had drivers, they were professional and great to travel with. So we were very happy all around. If I would be looking for possible icings on the cake, it would have been the inclusion of cultural events, or maybe just pointers to where to look for what (such as carnatic classical music or theyyem performances). But then maybe this is the old conundrum that it is only authentic if you stumble across it...........

The Tailor made travel service is an excellent aid when planning a trip to a new destination. I got a very quick response from a representative, the local company I was connected to was very efficient and communicative, and together we arranged a trip that ticked all our boxes. It would have been difficult to achieve our trip without out their expertise. And, it was absolutely free! I would recommend this service to anyone and will use it again.

We custom-tailored a 2-week trip to India in September 2019, and it was nothing short of stellar. We enjoyed the simplicity of using their portal site, which put us directly into contact with travel experts on the ground in India. We were unlimited in the number of customizations we were allowed to make to the trip before booking it. The resulting itinerary was amazing, and allowed us every freedom we could imagine. We had a personal driver in an air-conditioned car everywhere we went; our airline ticketing was seamless ... all transit was perfect. We were in contact with the travel agency in India almost daily - they checked in to ensure everything was going as planned - they were very proactive rather than reactive. The staff were helpful whenever assistance was needed. I'm glad that we picked up a book - we might never have known about this offering, which I think sets then apart from other companies (in this example, we also shopped G Adventures - but Guides ultimately offered us better flexibility at a better price.

On time for everything, we didn’t have any problem. Every transport was excellent. Our driver was excellent and nice (Vijay Kumar). We had two French guide in Agra & Varanasi who were great.

We had a great holiday in West Bengal and were able to experience many fascinating places. Rough Guides got us into contact with our guide - Mr. Deepak Mishra. He taught us a lot about West Bengal, and we were able to not only collect many valuable memories but also learn a lot about history and get a deeper insight into different aspects of local life and culture. We were also provided with professional and helpful drivers. Everything was well organised and we can only express our further recommendations.
