Trip Planning FAQ
What does a trip to Colombia look like?
Colombia is as diverse as it gets. A typical Colombia itinerary might start in Bogotá, where you can wander through La Candelaria and ride the cable car up to Monserrate. From there, head to Medellín, a city once known for all the wrong reasons, now a hub of creativity and transformation.
Then fly to Cartagena for colonial streets and Caribbean vibes. Add time in the Coffee Region for finca stays and fresh brews, and wrap up with a trek in Tayrona National Park. Want to go deeper? Include off-radar stops like Guatapé’s rainbow-colored streets or the ancient statues of San Agustín.
Can I customize my Colombia trip?
Absolutely. Every Rough Guides trip is built from scratch. You decide how fast or slow you want to travel, which places to see, and what kind of experiences to focus on: food, hiking, beach time, museums, you name it.
Our local experts in Colombia will then design a tailor-made journey that fits your style, budget, and interests. It’s your trip, your way, with none of the planning stress.
How far in advance should I start planning?
We recommend starting planning your trip to Colombia 3 to 6 months before you travel. Colombia has regional festivals, holiday peaks, and changing weather patterns, so locking things in early helps secure the best stays and guides.
If you're heading there during Christmas or the Barranquilla Carnival, book even earlier. The bonus of tailor-made travel is that you get flexibility and someone who knows the calendar inside out.
