Bosnia-Herzegovina is pretty good for outdoor pursuits. Beefy mountains mean that hiking is popular, though the continued presence of landmines means that you should seek local confirmation that an area is safe before setting off. During winter, a few ski slopes around Sarajevo come to life, while there’s year-round rafting to be had on several of the country’s rushing rivers – the best is the Una, near Bihać.
