6. See the waterfalls of Jajce

The town is home to the stunning Pliva Waterfall and the 14th-century Jajce Castle, which was once the seat of Bosnian kings. The town also boasts impressive 21m-high waterfalls. It is best known for the Arslanagić Bridge, a sixteenth-century stone bridge located just a ten-minute walk from the town centre. The Old Town is charming with its winding streets and plenty of cafes.

Visitors should also take time to explore the hilltop monasteries, including the fourteenth-century Tvrdoš, which offers stunning views of the surroundings.

13. Try local cuisine

Bosnia and Herzegovina's cuisine is heavily influenced by centuries of Ottoman rule. Local food joints sell čevapčići, grilled meat rissoles served with somun and chopped onion, and burek, greasy pastries filled with meat, spinach, cheese, pumpkin, or potato. Sarajevo is famous for its burek. Soups, vegetables stuffed with mincemeat, salads, and sweets such as baklava and tufahije are also widely available.
