Museum of the Romanian Peasant

Stretching north from Piața Victoriei, Şoseaua Kiseleff leads into the more pleasant, leafy suburbs. At no. 3, the Museum of the Romanian Peasant (Muzeul Țăranului Român) is a must-see, giving an insight into the country’s varied rural traditions, with exhibits on everything from costume and textiles to glass painted icons; to the rear there’s a beautiful wooden church, as well as an excellent souvenir shop. Don’t miss, in the basement, a curious exhibition of Communist iconography, featuring one of the very few pictures still remaining of Ceauşescu.
