Accommodation around the railway station includes the huge Hotel Ajanta on JC Nagar Road (t 0836/236 2216; Rs300–700), which has a range of rooms, including very cheap singles with shared bathroom. Opposite the City Bus Stand, the large and well-organized Shri Renuka Lodge (t 0836/225 3615; Rs301–1200) offers a good range of reasonable rooms, some with air conditioning, and has its own veg restaurant. There are a few hotels between the railway station and the bus stand on Lamington Road, including the pleasant Kailash (t 0836/235 2732; Rs301–1200), an efficient business hotel with good-value air-conditioned rooms and a decent restaurant, and the Vipra, opposite, which has simple rooms (t 0836/236 2336, e [email protected]; Rs300–500).
Most hotels have their own restaurants – the Shri Renuka, for example, has two sections, one serving south Indian veg food and the other Chinese and north Indian cuisine. The best of the independent restaurants is the Kamat Hotel, by the traffic island at the bus stand end of Lamington Road; there’s another branch opposite the railway station. Vinayak Chicken Corner, opposite the City Bus Stand, is a good spot for inexpensive non-veg food and beer.Read More
