1. No purchase necessary to enter this competition.
  2. This competition is open to residents of the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, South Africa, India, Australia, New Zealand, Canada (excluding Québec) and the USA, with the exception of employees of the Promoter, their families, agents and anyone else connected with this promotion. Entries from those aged 13 or under must be accompanied by evidence of permission from a parent/guardian or with their written consent.
  3. Entries must be received by 23:59 B.S.T. on Monday, 24th April 2017. The Promoter accepts no responsibility for any entries that are incomplete, illegible, corrupted or fail to reach the Promoter by the relevant closing date for any reason. Proof of posting or sending is not proof of receipt. Automatically generated entries or entries via agents or third parties are invalid and shall not be considered. Entries become the property of the Promoter and are not returned.
  4. Only one entry per person. No entrant may win more than one prize.
  5. To enter, submit a minimum of one travel photo, up to a maximum of five travel photos, detailing what each one depicts, where it was taken, and the month and year it was taken. You may also send a maximum of fifty (50) words explaining ‘the story behind the shot’ for one of the images. Alternatively, if you send more than one image, you can send a maximum of fifty (50) words explaining ‘the story behind the shots’ for the images as a group. Either way, send no more than fifty (50) words in total for ‘the story behind the shot/s’. Sending ‘the story behind the shot/s’ is voluntary. When suitable, the Promoter may use some or all of this text as a caption and will edit the text where necessary. Otherwise, photo captions will be composed of the entrant’s name, Instagram handle (if supplied), the destination featured and the month and year the image was taken. To submit your photos email your photo/s and text, along with personal details, including name, Instagram handle if you wish, age, country of residence and email address to [email protected], with the title of the competition in the subject line: “Rough Guides photobook competition 2017”. If the file size of the images requires it, you may send more than one email.
  6. Computer-generated, composites, or computer-altered images (with the exception of minor colour correction, cropping, sharpening and subtle use of filters) will not be accepted.
  7. All valid and correctly completed entries will be forwarded to a judging panel. The winner will be the photo that in the opinion of the judges is the best in terms of composition, quality and originality.
  8. Photos must not have won an award in a previous photo competition.
  9. The prize for the first prize winner is £2000 of eDreams vouchers and a Rough Guide of the winner’s choice. The winning image will feature on the book’s jacket.
  10. The prize for the second prize winner is £650 of eDreams vouchers and a Rough Guide of the second prize winner’s choice. The second place image will feature on the title page (p.1).
  11. The prize for the third prize winner is £350 of eDreams vouchers and a Rough Guide of the third prize winner’s choice. The third place image will feature on one of pages 2–4 of the book, depending on the book’s final design.
  12. A further twenty runners-up will be sent a Rough Guide of their choice.
  13. Other than as specified above, the Promoter shall not be liable for any costs or expenses arising out of or in any way connected with the prize(s) and does not accept any responsibility for any damage, loss or disappointment suffered by the winners as result of accepting their prizes.
  14. The judges’ decision is final. No correspondence will be entered into.
  15. The prizes are non-transferrable and no cash alternative will be offered.
  16. Prizes are subject to availability. In the event of unforeseen circumstances, the Promoter reserves the right (a) to substitute alternative prizes of equivalent or greater value and (b) in exceptional circumstances to amend or foreclose the promotion without notice. No correspondence will be entered into.
  17. The winners will be notified via email by Friday, 12th May 2017. The winners must claim their prize within 30 days of the Promoter sending notification. If any prize is unclaimed after this time, it will lapse and the Promoter reserves the right to offer the unclaimed prize to a substitute winner selected in accordance with these rules.
  18. By entering this competition each entrant confirms that his/her entry is their wholly owned creation and to the extent that such entry makes use of any third party materials that these have been fully cleared unless they are no longer protected by copyright or other intellectual property rights. Entrants will keep the Promoter harmless from any claims in relation to their entry that the entry infringes the personal or proprietary right of any other person.The Promoter will use these images for the purpose of this competition and promotion of the competition and book only. However by submitting an entry, each entrant grants to the Promoter a perpetual, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to edit, publish, translate, modify, adapt, make available and distribute the entry throughout the world as part of the book in any media now known or hereafter invented, and for the promotion of the competition and book only. Each entrant undertakes to complete (or to get their parent/guardian to complete on their behalf) any necessary documentation to formalise the licence. Distribution of the entry may include but is not limited to publishing some of the entries as a short list on RoughGuides.com and allowing other press outlets to publish them too. The images may also be printed large format to appear in exhibitions to promote the book’s publication. If you do not want to grant us these rights, please do not submit materials to us.

  20. The Promoter will use any data submitted by entrants only for the purposes of running the competition, unless otherwise stated in the entry details. By entering this competition, all entrants consent to the use of their personal data by the Promoter for the purposes of the administration of this competition and any other purposes to which the entrant has consented.
  21. The winners agree to take part in reasonable post event publicity and to the use of their names and photographs in such publicity.
  22. Promoter may disqualify any entrant whose entry does not comply with these terms and conditions (in Promoter’s sole opinion) or who, in Promoter’s sole determination, has acted in a manner that is fraudulent, dishonest or unjust to other entrants including, without limitation, tampering with the operation of the competition, manipulating or rigging votes, hacking, deceiving, cheating or by harassing or threatening other entrants or a representative of Promoter.

  25. By entering the competition each entrant agrees to be bound by these terms and conditions.
