Caraquet is the setting for the region’s most important Acadian Festival (t 506 727 2787, w festivalacadien.ca), a two-week programme of music and theatre held August 1–15, which begins with the blessing of the fishing fleet by a local bishop. One of the highlights is the Tintamarre (on Aug 15, National Acadian Day), where revelers are invited to make as much noise as possible for one hour – the resulting cacophony is quite a sound (and sight) to behold.
