Peniche has some of the best and most consistent surfing in the country. The turismo hands out a free surf-guide to the local beaches, including Supertubos and the other local breaks. You can rent gear from Rip Curl, Rua Alexandre Herculano (t262 787 206), or from any of the local surf-camps, including Baleal Surfcamp (wbalealsurfcamp.com), PH Surf School (wpenichehostel.com) and Peniche Surf Camp in Baleal (wpenichesurfcamp.com). Group lessons cost from €35 (individual sessions from €80), while each camp also has accommodation (hostel-style or apartments and private rooms). One-week inclusive courses for beginners cost around €500 in July and August, cheaper outside high season.
