Novalja, 20km north of Pag Town, is the island’s main resort, much more developed and crowded than Pag Town, and famous as the 24-hour party destination for young Croatians. Just in case you think that life in Novalja is a nonstop disco, however, be aware that most of the nightlife is based on the beaches of Zrće and Katarelac, a good 2–3km away from the centre, and that the beach-party season is largely limited to July and August – outside these times, Novalja is just as charming and relaxing as anywhere else on the Adriatic.

Novalja’s holiday-apartment sprawl stretches along the coast to the twin settlement of Stara Novalja (literally “Old Novalja”, although the suburban style of this straggling shoreline settlement is primarily modern), 3km to the northeast.
