1 Ko Samet

This pretty little island, fringed with a dozen or so beaches of fine, dazzlingly white sand, is easy to get to and offers a wide choice of accommodation, though it’s suffering a little for its popularity these days.

2 Trat

Welcoming guesthouses and restaurants and an atmospheric old quarter make for a worthwhile stopover on the way to the islands or Cambodia.

3 Ko Chang

Head for Lonely Beach if you’re in the mood to party, or to Hat Khlong Phrao, Ao Bang Bao or Hat Khlong Gloi for progressively more tranquil scenes.

4 Ko Mak

Lovely, lazy, palm-filled island with peaceful white-sand beaches, a welcoming atmosphere and some stylish accommodation.

5 Ko Kood

The real beauty of the east, with some great beaches, Thailand’s fourth-largest island is untamed and as yet largely undeveloped.
