New Zealand has been Tony Mudd’s great love since he visited for several months in 1993/4. Since then he has returned often, under the slightest of pretences, and has built up an extensive network of friends and contacts throughout the country.

Tony is one of the original, and current, authors of the Rough Guide to New Zealand now in its 5th edition. He also writes about New Zealand in national newspapers, magazines, on websites, and talks about it on the radio. To avoid becoming a complete bore he contributes reviews to Time Out Eating and Weekend Guides, provides articles on other subjects for national newspapers and magazines and some years ago originated the Tip-Top series, to which he has contributed guidebooks on fish and chip shops and British greasy spoons.

As well as writing Tony has also provided a considerable number of photographs for most of the above projects and now has a substantial library of pictures that he licenses for use by other authors and organizations (see website below).

In his spare time Tony writes short stories, comedy material and poetry, travels, meanders his native Suffolk taking photographs, cooks frighteningly agricultural meals, drinks Adnams Ale in his local, swims like a fish, regularly fails to complete cryptic crosswords and occasionally sails eccentrically. He’s always willing to publicise Rough Guide titles in any way possible and when asked often capable of coming up with a good story, sometimes even when not asked.
