Getting Around
Buses to La Unión (5–6hr) with Turismo Union, Jr Tarapaca 449, leave daily at 7.30am, while buses, colectivos and trucks to Tingo Maria (2–3hr) and Pucallpa (11 hr; recommended to travel in daylight hours only, due to frequent night robberies in recent years) leave with three different companies daily from block 2 of Hermillo Valdizan, and also with Turismo Central from their office at Tarapaca 552 (usually only a night bus). Buses to Lima (8–10hr), via the Central Highway and La Oroya, leave daily with Cruz del Sur from 28 de Julio 341; Etposa also have a nightly service to Lima leaving 10pm from Hermillo Valdizan 773. Buses for Tantamayo (7–10hr) leave most days at around 7.15am from Jr Tarapaca 449 with Turismo Union; and Transportes Chasqui also run a Tantamayo service from Tarapaca 403 at 7.30am. There are no direct buses from Huánuco to Junin and Huancayo; the best you can do is try to catch one of the Lima buses that passes through La Oroya, where you should disembark and catch a bus or colectivo to the Huancayo area.
