The dazzling white facade of the Teatro Municipal fronts a splendid French-style Neoclassical building, all arches and columns and perfect symmetry. This has been the capital's most prestigious venue for ballet, opera and classical music since it was inaugurated in 1857. It's worth asking to have a look around inside; the main auditorium is quite a sight, with its sumptuous red upholstery and crystal chandeliers.
