Shiny black steam engines herald the outdoor Museo Ferroviario. The museum consists of fourteen pristine locomotives dating from 1893 to 1940, including a splendid Kitson-Meyer, manufactured in England in 1909 and shipped over to Chile, where it served the famous trans-Andean service from Los Andes to Mendoza in Argentina until 1971. Another highlight is the luxurious wood-panelled presidential train, built in 1911 for Ramón Barros Luco – if you ask nicely you'll be allowed to climb on board.
