Feria Municipal La Vega
There's no pretty architecture here, and no tourists either; just serious shoppers and hundreds of stalls selling the whole gamut of Central Valley produce, from cows' innards and pigs' bellies to mountains of potatoes and onions, at a fraction of the price charged in the Mercado Central. Work your way to the back of the building and out into the maze of canopied stalls behind. La Vega is mainly wholesale, and the quantities of fresh fruit on display here are simply breathtaking: table after table piled high with raspberries, grapes, pears, apples, kiwis, plums, nectarines and peaches – all dappled by the sunlight poking through the awnings.
