Llaullao church
There's not much to the little village of Llaullao, 4km north of Castro – just a couple of streets on a hillock dominated by its pretty church, a long squat building with a tower and portico. The townspeople are very proud of the church because it has been declared a national monument and is on UNESCO's World Heritage list. Anyone inside when you visit will often offer to show you around, and you can climb up into the tower to inspect the deep-blue barrelled roof. Micros and colectivos run here from Castro, or you can take any bus to Ancud and ask to be dropped at the crossroads.
