The Southwest

Arrival

Salt Lake City International Airport is a mere four miles west of downtown. A taxi into town costs around $20; cheaper shuttle vans to downtown destinations are run by Xpress Shuttles ( 801/596-1600 or 1-800/397-0773, www.xpressshuttle.com ), while Canyon Transportation ( 801/255-1841, www.canyontransport.com ) serves the ski areas. Long-distance Greyhound-Trailways buses arrive downtown, at 300 S 600 West ( 801/355-9579), as do Amtrak trains, at 320 S Rio Grande Ave. Local buses, and also TRAX trams, are operated by the Utah Transit Authority ( 801/743-3882, www.rideuta.com ); journeys within the immediate downtown area are free.

The visitor center is downtown at 90 S West Temple Blvd in the Salt Palace Convention Center (Mon– Fri 9am–6pm, Sat & Sun 9am–5pm; 801/534-4490, www.visitsaltlake.com ).
