Getting around

Traffic is so bad in Las Vegas that if you've just come to explore the Strip, it's not worth renting a car. Be warned, though, that on summer days it's too hot to walk more than a couple of blocks along the Strip. Public transport does exist. The Las Vegas Monorail runs along the eastern side of the Strip from the MGM Grand to the Sahara (Mon– Thurs 7am–2am, Fri– Sun 7am–3am; single trip $5, 1-day pass $12; www.lvmonorail.com ), but doesn't go to the airport or downtown. Separate, free monorail systems also link Mandalay Bay with Excalibur via Luxor, the Monte Carlo with Bellagio via CityCenter, and the Mirage with TI. In addition, the city-run, 24-hour Deuce bus ($2; www.catride.com ) connects the Strip with downtown, while the oak-veneered streetcars of the Las Vegas Strip Trolley ($2.50; www.striptrolley.com ) ply the Strip between Mandalay Bay and the Stratosphere.
