The South
Arrival
Nashville International Airport is eight miles – around a $25 taxi ride – southeast of downtown. The Gray Line shuttle (every 15–20min 5am–11pm; $12 one way, $20 round-trip;
615/883-5555) drops off at most downtown hotels; Metropolitan Transit Authority buses leave hourly ($1.60;
615/862-5950,
www.nashvillemta.org ). The Greyhound station is in a seedy part of downtown at 200 Eighth Ave S. There's no Amtrak service.
The best place to pick up information on the city is the excellent visitor center, downtown at Fifth and Broadway, in the massive Gaylord Entertainment Center (Mon– Sat 8.30am–5.30pm, Sun 10am–5pm;
615/259-4747 or 1-800/657-6910,
www.visitmusiccity.com ); the second branch, 150 4th Ave N (Mon– Fri 8am–5pm;
615/259-4731), is also good.
If you like your country music laid on with lots of campy fun, hop aboard the "Big Pink Bus" and let the singing guides of Nash-Trash Tours dish the dirt on all your favourite stars (Wed– Sat, 90min; $29.50; reservations essential;
615/226-7300 or
1-800/342-2132,
www.nashtrash.com ).
