The South
Arrival
Memphis is on I-40 as it runs east– west and I-55 from the south. Both join I-240, which loops around the city, and cross the Mississippi River. Memphis International Airport is twelve miles south of downtown – a long and complicated bus trip for $1.50, but just fifteen minutes by the Yellow Cabs limo/van service ($15;
901/577-7700 or 1-800/796-7750,

The spacious Tennessee Welcome Center, just off I-40 downtown at 119 N Riverside and Adams – facing Mud Island at river level – is open 24 hours a day (
