The Rockies

State Capitol

The State Capitol offers a commanding view of the Rockies swelling on the western horizon. The thirteenth step up to its entrance is exactly one mile above sea level. The capitol is a rather predictable copy of that in Washington DC, but the free tours (every 45min Mon– Fri, closed holidays; 9am–3.30pm in summer, 9.15am–2.30pm rest of year) are pleasantly informal, and you can climb its dome for an even better view.

Address: Broadway and E Colfax Avenue

    Opening time: Mon– Fri 7am–5.30pm
