Getting around
Negotiating downtown Denver on foot is fairly straightforward, though the free buses (daily 6am–1am) that run for a mile up and down the 16th Street Mall at the heart of the city's grid-like street pattern are hard to pass up. RTD, Denver's excellent public transportation network (
303/229-6000,
www.rtd-denver.com ), also runs pay-to-ride buses ($1.75); frequent services to the city's sports venues and airport leave from the underground Market Street Station at Market and 16th. The bus network is supplemented by a light railway (same local fares as buses) and all RTD services are designed to carry bikes (free) and accommodate wheelchair users.
Gray Line (
1-800/348-6877,
www.coloradograyline.com ) offers several bus tours of the Denver area that range from three to ten hours; tours depart from Cherry Creek Shopping Center, three miles southeast of downtown, and range from $35–90. Advance reservations are recommended.
