The Arts District

The Arts District boasts an excellent gaggle of galleries. The Dallas Museum of Art, 1717 N Harwood St (Tues– Sun 11am–5pm, Thurs until 9pm; $10, free Thurs 5–9pm, $16 combination ticket with Nasher Sculpture Center; www.dallasmuseumofart.org), has an impressive pre-Columbian collection in the Gallery of the Americas, along with artifacts from Africa, Asia, and the Pacific and works by European artists. Across Harwood Drive, the Nasher Sculpture Center (Tues– Sun 11am–5pm, Thurs until 9pm; $10, $16 combination ticket with the DMA; www.nashersculpturecenter.org) has a few galleries inside, but saves the best of its collection for the garden. Don't miss James Turrell's meditative walk-in installation Tending (Blue). Cross Flora Street to get to the smaller Crow Collection of Eastern Art (Tues– Sun 10am–5pm, Thurs until 9pm; free), which fills its very peaceful space with delicately hewn works from China, Tibet, Cambodia, and India.
