Arrival

Dallas is served by two major airports. Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW; 972/574-8888, www.dfwairport.com ) is exactly midway between the two cities (around 17 miles from each). You can catch one of a variety of different shuttle buses, such as Super Shuttle ( 817/329-2000, www.supershuttle.com ), which costs about $17 to get downtown; taxis cost around $50 (Yellow Cab 214/426-6262). The other major airport, Love Field ( 214/670-6073, www.dallas-lovefield.com ), used mostly by Southwest Airlines, lies about nine miles northwest of Dallas, from where taxis to downtown cost around $17, shuttles around $11. Greyhound is at 205 S Lamar St downtown, while Amtrak's 1916 Union Station is further west at 400 S Houston St. The Trinity Railway Express ( 214/979-1111, www.trinityrailwayexpress.org ) service runs regular commuter trains to Fort Worth for $2.50.

The downtown visitor center is in the "Old Red" Courthouse, 100 S Houston St, near the Kennedy-related sights (Mon– Fri 8am–5pm, Sat & Sun 9am–5pm; 214/571-1300, www.visitdallas.com ).
