Honolulu's International Airport is just west of downtown. Car rental outlets abound, but a car is not especially desirable in Honolulu, what with city traffic and hefty parking fees in Waikiki. The nine-mile (not at all scenic) drive to Waikiki takes anything from 25 to 75 minutes; Reliable (single $10, round-trip $18;

www.reliableshuttle.com ) is one of many shuttle services that run to any Waikiki hotel. Regular buses #19 and #20 also head to Waikiki, but don't allow large bags, cases, or backpacks. A taxi will cost around $25.
