Parque Niños Héroes

The vast Parque Niños Héroes, chiefly a gentle retreat from the city, is best visited at weekends when the throng of Mexican families enjoying themselves goes some way towards masking the slightly run-down nature of the place. Among the semi-formal gardens and boating lake are minor sights (some have nominal entrance fees) such as a spherical aviary, a transport museum with vintage and classic cars and trucks, and the Pinacoteca, a small art gallery featuring mostly missable oils and sculpture by Nuevo León artists. The main attractions here are some fine pieces by Fidias Elizondo, notably the female nude La Ola.
