Nightlife

Antropolis Montemayor and Padre Mier A dark, left-wing favourite among students and revolutionary types. It can sometimes get quite crowded and rowdy here, so don't wear your best clothes.

Cadaques Morelos 905 This minimalist, white-leather-clad lounge occasionally showcases European DJs for pricey covers. It's a good place to come for a quality cocktail.

Author Pick Café Iguana Montemayor 927 Monterrey's best rock club. You'll find the patrons here similar to those at Antropolis. They play everything from techno to grunge, dress is casual and live bands occasionally perform.

Café Paraíso Morelos 958 Ote Multi-roomed café and bar with local artwork on the walls, serving a fabulous range of coffees, delicious and huge tortas with fries (M$40) and fairly pricey drinks, though beers are two-for-one (M$30) round-the-clock.

Dragonfly Padre Mier 1094 Pop music, both the Mexican and US varieties, plays at this buzzing, jaunty nightclub.

Kokoloco Padre Mier 1102 Ote Fun, popular disco with three different floors, featuring alternative vibes on the first, and pop and dance on the subsequent levels. There's also a loft space to chill out in.

Loft Morelos 870 This is the place to come if you're in the mood for hip-hop or rap.

El Rincón La Habana Morelos 887 The combination of Cuban food and live music is hard to resist (the music begins after 10pm), though they only open Thurs, Fri and Sat.

Río Latino at the eastern end of Padre Mier Regularly staging live music, Río Latino currently plays host to the bilingual jet-set crowd. A very popular, if slightly pretentious venue, so dress to impress and try to act suave – at least for the doormen.

La Tumba Padre Mier 827 Ote The main draw at this large, semi-outdoor bar is live acoustic music Thurs– Sat. Expect to hear anything from blues to jazz to rock. Open 5pm–2am. Cover M$20–50.
