El Fuerte
Founded in the sixteenth century, EL FUERTE is a tranquil, verdant backwater full of handsome colonial architecture and vivid local legends. It is here that the Río Fuerte emerges from the copper canyons, carrying water from a labyrinthine network of rivers, streams and tributaries. Located 75km east of Los Mochis on the railway line, El Fuerte makes an enticing alternative start (or end) to the Chihuahua-Pacifico train ride.
