Getting around

The best way to see downtown Halifax is on foot, but for outlying attractions and accommodation buses operated by Metro Transit ( 902/490-4000, www.halifax.ca/metrotransit ) are reliable and efficient, though they are sharply curtailed in the evenings and on weekends. There's a flat fare of $2 in the Halifax area (exact fare only). If you need to change buses on the same journey, ask for a free transfer ticket at the outset. The ferries that cross Halifax harbour from the downtown terminal to Dartmouth and Woodside are part of the Metro Transit system and apply the same tariff. Free Metro Transit route maps and schedules are available from the tourist office.
