The Legislative Assembly Building (guided tours: early June to mid-Aug daily 9am–7pm; mid-Aug to early June Mon– Fri 9am–4pm; free), the home of New Brunswick's parliament, stands opposite the art gallery, its robust and imposing exterior topped by a ponderous tower and cupola. The interior holds a sumptuously decorated Assembly Chamber, adorned with portraits of George III and Queen Charlotte by Joshua Reynolds, as well as a splendid oak and cherry spiral staircase leading to the chamber's visitors' gallery. The Reynolds were rescued from the previous parliament building, which burnt down in 1880.
